Corson Music

Rebecca Corson is an active freelance musician based in St. Paul, MN, where she plays with the Grand Symphonic Winds, the Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble, and the St. Croix Sounds. She recently moved from the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex, where she was a long-time member of the Lone Star Wind Orchestra and maintained a private teaching studio.

As a member of the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, Ms. Corson has been a featured performer at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic (under the guest direction of Maestro Lenard Slatkin), the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference, as well as the conferences for the National Association for Music Education, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and the Arkansas Bandmasters Association. She can also be heard on the CDs Converging Culture (Naxos), Teaching Music through Performance in Middle School Band (GIA), and several recordings for Southern Music Company with the same ensemble. She has also recorded with the University of Northern Colorado Wind Ensemble and the Luther College Concert Band.

Ms. Corson is equally at home performing solo and orchestral literature. She was named a semi-finalist in the Armando Ghitalla International Trumpet Classic; was twice named as a semi-finalist in the Masters Solo Division of the National Trumpet Competition; and was a soloist for the Lamb of God Bach Festival (TX). As an orchestral musician, Ms. Corson has performed with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra (CO), the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Orchestra (IA), the Dorian Opera Theatre Orchestra (IA), the Young Artists Philharmonic Orchestra (CO), and performed as principal trumpet of the Rome Festival Orchestra (Rome, Italy).

As an educator, Ms. Corson is passionate about the positive impact music education has on the lives of students. Her students have been selected for honor bands at the Texas Region, Area, and All-State levels and have earned Division I ratings and Outstanding Soloist awards at UIL Solo and Ensemble competitions. Her students have also performed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Texas Music Educators Association conference, and Music for All.

Ms. Corson holds a BA in Trumpet Performance from Luther College and an MM in Trumpet Performance from the University of Northern Colorado, where she was a graduate teaching assistant. She has studied with Dr. Ronald Fox, Mr. William Pfund, and Dr. Robert Murray.

When not teaching, performing, or practicing, Ms. Corson enjoys cooking, reading Jane Austen novels, sewing, and spending time with her husband and two dogs.
